How Hwee Young is a staff photographer with global news photo wire agency, the european pressphoto agency b.v. (epa) based in Beijing, China. 

Singaporean born, her career began in 2001 where she joined Singapore's leading newspaper The Straits Times as a photojournalist before joining epa in 2004. She is primarily drawn to documenting the human condition and has  focused on covering the political, economical, cultural, and environmental issues affecting the Chinese people over the past years. Her diverse coverage over the years include the the 2004 Asian Tsunami, the Thailand red shirt protests, the 2008 Global financial crisis, Beijing Olympics, Formula One Grand Prix, Australian Tennis Open, APEC & G8 summits and various more. She earned an Award of Excellence by Communication Arts 46th Annual photography exhibition in 2005 for her work on the 2004 Asian Tsunami. Her images have been widely published on front pages and insides of major newspapers and magazines including the the NewYork Times, the Guardian, the British Times, The International Herald Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, The Sydney Herald, the Telegraph, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the Independent, South China Morning Post, Bangkok Post, Le Monde, El Pais, Time magazine, Der Spiegel, Der Stern, GEO Magazine, among others.
