How Hwee Young is a staff photographer with global news photo wire agency, the european pressphoto agency b.v. (epa) based in Beijing, China.
Born in Singapore, How Hwee Young joined Singapore's leading newspaper The
Straits Times in 2001 as one of the few female photojournalists. In 2004 she
joined epa to cover Singapore and Southeast Asia until relocating to Beijing in
2010. She is primarily drawn to covering events involving the human condition
like the 2004 Asian Tsunami or the 2009 Indonesian Padang Earthquake. Her
diverse coverage includes the Grand Prix of Singapore, Beijing Olympics,
Australian Open, Expo 2010, APEC & G8 summits. She earned an Award of
Excellence by Communication Arts 46th Annual photography exhibition in 2005 for
her work on the Asian Tsunami and her photos have been published on front
pages and insides of international newspapers and magazines across the globe.
